Build your invoice calculation

Add one row per net line amount after discounts. Enter a short description, the net amount and the rate. Use Add invoice line for more rows or Remove to delete one. A line amount represents its full quantity total: for three items at £30 each, enter £90.

Example with more than one rate

Suppose a qualifying line has a £100 net amount at 20% and another has £200 net at 5%. The first contributes £20 VAT and the second contributes £10. Combined net is £300, VAT is £30 and the customer total is £330. The £30 tax is not 20% of the combined net.

Rounding method

This calculator rounds each line’s VAT to the nearest penny before adding the totals. Net line amounts are rounded to pennies too. Other permitted accounting methods can differ by a penny; apply a consistent method and check Notice 700 when reconciling your accounting software.

Is the result a VAT invoice?

No. It is a calculation worksheet, not a downloadable legal invoice. Your invoice also needs the required identification, dates, descriptions and tax details. Zero-rated rows are supported, but a zero entry does not encode exemption or a reverse charge. Handle those treatments in your invoicing system.

Quick answer

Can I use the result without saving an account?
